Tom is a native of Georgia and the descendant of three Confederate soldiers. The first Catholic in his family since the sixteenth century, he converted to the Church in 1975. High among his intellectual influences have been Edmund Burke, Joseph de Maistre, Cardinal Newman, Cardinal Manning, Evelyn Waugh, Ronald Knox, Hilaire Belloc, J. R. R. Tolkien, Russell Kirk, and his favourite Pope, Bd. Pius IX, author of the Syllabus of Errors. Tom began working for the Central Bureau of the Catholic Central Verein in 1995, first as archivist and librarian, and lately as assistant to the Director and Assistant Editor of the Social Justice Review. He joined the Credo board in 2008.
